The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India is an “Institute of National Importance” through an Act of Parliament (NIMHANS Act, 2012). Its tradition in training goes back to 1954, when the first post-graduate course in psychiatry was established here, along with allied disciplines. The unique feature of this Institute is its multidisciplinary approach to patient care, training as well as research in the areas of mental health and neurosciences.
